Reasons why we recommend 6 monthly checkups...

Is it really that important to make your bi yearly checkup to the dentist? We think so, and here's our reasons why...

Visiting the dentist is not just about keeping your smile looking good. It's also about your overall health.

1. Early Detection

Did you know that as well as checking for issues like cavities and gum disease, your dentist will also be able to detect early signs of oral cancer, often before you feel any pain or discomfort. Early treatment usually means simpler, less expensive, and more effective care. Even minor issues, if left unattended, can lead to much wider health problems like heart disease.

2. Professional Cleaning

No matter how well you brush and floss your teeth, plaque and tartar can still build up, especially in those hard to reach areas. Our hygienists use specialised tools to remove this tartar build up in a gentle and effective way.

3. Preventative Care

Preventative treatments such as fluoride, sealants and personalised advice will help you avoid future dental issues. We can also check your brushing and flossing habits and offer advise on possible improvements.

4. Gum Heath Monitoring

Gum disease ( also known as gingivitis or periodontitis) can sneak up without pain until it is advanced. Regular checks help monitor gum pockets and inflammation before any major damage occurs.

5. Oral Cancer Screenings

During your checkup we will check the entirety of your mouth. This means looking for any abnormal tissue in the mouth, tongue, throat and neck. Signs that could indicate early stages of oral cancer.

6. Checking restorative work

If you have any fillings, crowns or implants, your dentist will check they are still in good condition, therefore keeping on top of any wear and tear that may cause damage or issues before they become serious.

So basically sticking to those 6 monthly visits helps you to avoid costly or painful dental emergencies later. Think of it like getting the oil changed on your car. Maintenance is easier (and cheaper) than repairs.
